NES: Software Discontinued

After over 30 years of pioneering the use of specification writing software in the UK and beyond, NES/NES+ will be discontinued on January 31, 2020. During 2018, we at Trimble engaged in a number of research projects to review MEP design and the construction industry as a whole. One of the resulting outcomes is the conclusion that NES is no longer serving the best interests of our evolving industry.

What happens next?

Please rest assured that while you remain in subscription the service will continue as normal throughout 2019 and in January of 2020. This includes Trimble technical support and content updates.

You can expect to receive a pro-rata renewal offer 30 days before the expiry of your existing subscription. If you choose to renew up until January 31, 2020, you can continue accessing your NES software and technical content -without Trimble support- until January 31, 2021.

Please note: there will be no Trimble support or updates during the 12 month period from January 31, 2020 through January 31, 2021.

NES Customer FAQ

What does Sunset mean for NES?

NES will no longer be supported by Trimble from an application or content update perspective after January 31, 2020.

Why are we discontinuing NES?

We are proactively choosing to sunset NES at this time because the product and underlying technology have become difficult to maintain. Additionally, over the years new solutions have been introduced to the engineering specification market, making the NES product less competitive. Trimble MEP will remain committed to serving engineers, consultants, and contractors in the UK and Middle East markets with leading products like ProDesign, our estimating and contract management solutions, as well as new products in the future.

Will NES release content updates in 2019?

Yes. We have just updated the NES content in December 2018 and we will continue content updates throughout 2019.

What if I want to renew in 2019?

  • Customers that renew their subscription in 2019 will have their subscription amount prorated through January 31, 2020, and will be entitled to all content and product updates we produce, as well as Trimble support.
  • Customers that renew their subscription in 2019 will also have access to their data until January 31, 2021.

What if I want to continue using the NES product and related content?

  • We realise some customers may need additional usage of the NES product for in-progress projects, Trimble will grant all current customers the option to continue accessing NES through January 31, 2021.
  • There will, however, be no support provided from Trimble and there will be no content updates - just continued access to your data and the NES product until January 31, 2021.
  • Contract terms will be updated giving customers “license” to the content for your own use, not to be repurposed or sold.

Am I allowed to keep the content I have outside of the system after the deadline?

Yes. Once the product is not supported you are entitled to use the content outside of the application. Please ensure this is done before your subscription expires, or you will not be able to access the content.

What happens to my access in the event of a computer failure that might require a reinstallation?

In the event of a system failure or a situation where the NES product requires reactivation or reinstallation, this will not be a supported process and Trimble will be unable to provide a reactivation key after January 31, 2020.

We sincerely appreciate your support during this sunset period of the NES product and regret any inconvenience this may cause you.
Trimble remains committed to serving the MEP markets in the UK and Middle East with solutions and services that enable our customers to run profitable construction projects from design to installation. We look forward to a continued partnership with you in the future as we enhance and further our solutions.
